Our Story

Massive progress is taking place in enabling foundation models for enterprise use cases. Despite headwinds including scarcity of talent, scarcity of computer hardware for training and inference, we are seeing both venture investment in the technology sector and strategic investments at leading enterprises starting to turn the promise of AI foundation models into exciting new capabilities.


Before these capabilities can turn into sustainable business value, much less herald the transformation of industry that is in the offing, these capabilities are going to have to be made safe for companies to use, especially (but not only) companies that provide critical services in regulated industries.

 

Put simply, the investment in risk control for AI-powered applications is not anywhere near what is needed for broad enterprise adoption beyond the sandbox:

  •  Risk control frameworks for AI powered applications are in their infancy

  • What does exist, is too high level to be actionable

  • Approaches being put forward by incumbents in tech and consultancy are bureaucratic, manually intensive, and may not actually reduce risk


 Rational Exponent has been founded to change all that.

We are building the guardrails for safe adoption AI-powered apps by the enterprise. We are bringing to market:

  • An actionable framework for controlling the risks of AI -powered IT services and putting the business in control.

  • Assembly: our process automation for agreeing, enforcing, and refining control objectives.

  • Executive: our runtime automation for monitoring, assessing, and enforcing these controls for the full AI application lifecycle.

  • Powerful AI models tuned to assist the risk control functions embedded in these capabilities, but always with a human in or over the loop to assure the outcome.


 We are bringing this to market by working with our development partners in key industries and in the technology sector to co-create these guardrails while bringing high value use cases to market. By forging this in the crucible of real-world enterprise AI, we will create a pragmatic standard for sustainable enterprise adoption.
